About

Fred Heyman

Of Counsel

“Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than a successful resolution for a client. I am the voice for those who can’t advocate for themselves. My clients have suffered catastrophic injuries, many have unrelenting pain even after the injury has healed, and some have lost a loved one. No two cases are alike, and each client brings with them their own story. I treat each client as I would expect to be treated myself…with dignity, respect, and compassion.” They deserve nothing less.

A perennial “Super Lawyer” and member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, Fred joined Miller & Stern as “of counsel” in May 2025, where he brings almost 38 years of litigation experience to the firm. Initially a “insurance defense” lawyer, where he represented the interests of insurance companies in claims by injured victims, Fred realized that his talents were better served by representing those injured victims and has been doing strictly Plaintiffs' work since 1989. Fred “cut his chops” as a trial attorney and then senior trial attorney for the Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos and after a long and distinguished career at Bennett & Heyman, P.A. in Baltimore, Maryland where his practice focused on catastrophic personal injury, medical negligence, and serious motor torts, Fred just could not turn down the opportunity to associate with Dan Miller and Kevin Stern, whose passion for the law and those clients that they serve, as well as their intellect and good old common sense are second to none. Fred is just as passionate for the law today as he was when he graduated from Temple University School of Law in 1987, where he was awarded a William R. Spofford Scholarship for demonstrating academic achievement and financial need. It is the financial need component of the scholarship that has never been lost on Fred. Being an advocate for those in need is, and always has been, Fred’s way of “paying it forward”.

Fred has successfully litigated personal injury cases throughout the State of Maryland, Maryland’s Federal Court, and has been specially admitted to litigate personal injury cases in Arizona, Delaware, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Fred is licensed in the State of Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Fred is also committed to serving the community in which he lives. He is the past board chair of The Johns Hopkins University Hillel, Na’Aleh: The Hub for Leadership and Learning, and Capital Camps and Retreat Center, and is a current board member of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore.

Fred is happily married to Tammy, and they have two boys – Adam, who lives in Denver with his wife Rachel, and Ethan, who lives in Chicago.

Aside from his family, Fred’s passion is thoroughbred horse racing. He currently serves as counsel to Fair Hill Condominium Association, which houses the Fair Hill Training Center in Cecil County, Maryland, the most innovative racehorse training center in North America, providing unsurpassed facilities to maximize the performance of the equine athlete. He also served as President of Team Valor International, a leader in thoroughbred racehorse syndication, and still maintains an active interest in thoroughbred racehorse partnerships and syndications.
