On January 19, 2021, Maryland State Police reported a multi-vehicle crash in Baltimore County that resulted in the death of one person. This person has been identified as 30-year-old Luke Sounders of Catonsville. The crash occurred northbound of I-95, just before exit 49A, I-695 outside of the city, in Baltimore County.

According to Maryland State Police, Dylan Shields, age 29, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado north on I-95 when he rear-ended Sounders. The crash caused a chain reaction involving two more vehicles—a Kia Forte and a Volkswagen GTI.  Melinda Moore, 52 of Gwynn Oak was driving the Kia Forte. Patrick Cavanaugh, 24 of Stewartstown, PA drove the Volkswagen GTI.

Cavanaugh was taken to the hospital via ambulance while both Shields and Moore refused medical treatment at the scene. The investigation is currently ongoing. All suffered property damage in the car crash.

Distracted driving is one of the main causes of car collisions, especially on the interstate. A lot can change in a matter of seconds. Was the driver speeding and not paying attention to the road? Perhaps they were texting or talking on the phone. Is it possible they may have been under the influence or tired? In situations like this, hiring a lawyer immediately following a collision is essential.

Speeding, driver fatigue, weather conditions, driver distractions, and intoxication caused by drugs or alcohol, are just a few examples of the many factors that can cause auto collisions. These factors may indicate you are entitled to compensation, even though it may not seem that way in the immediate aftermath of a car crash.
